In this post I will simplify the two most important microbiological terms. Even some Microbiology students are confused by these two terms. I hope your doubts will be resolved once you read this post.   What is culture medium (or media)? Culture medium (or media) is a solid(by incorporating agar in the Broth), liquid (Broth -without agar), or semi solid designed to support the growth of microorganisms. Enriched Media Enriched Media is Solid media . It contains the nutrients required to support the growth of a wide variety of organisms, including fastidious ones( that will grow only if special nutrients are present is this culture medium). Example:   Blood Agar -  5-10% of sheep Blood, soyabean protein digest, sodium chloride, Agar.(Addition of blood makes the medium more nutritious by providing additional growth factors required by fastidious organism. Do's and don'ts in Microbiology Laboratory

           " Safety isn't expensive, it's priceless " Scope: Applicable to Microbiology Laboratory. Do's in Microbiology Laboratory. Wash your hands with disinfectant sope when you arrive at the lab and again before you leave. Purchase a lab coat and safety glasses, bring them to class, and use them. Keep your workspace free of all unnecessary materials. Backpacks, purses should be placed in the cubbyhole by the front door of the lab. Disinfect work areas before and after use. Use a disinfectant, such as 10% bleach or 70% ethanol solution, to wipe down benches and work areas both before and after working with culture. Lable everything cleary. All cultures, chemicals, disinfectant and media should be clearly labelled with their names and dates. Dexamethasone is a steroid that has been used since the 1960, to reduce information in a range of condition, including inflammatory disorders and certain cancers. It has been listed on the WHO Model List of Essential Medicine since 1977. What is the price of Dexamethasone? In the US, the average retail price is under $50. While in UK, it costs about €5.
